Opinions vary.

This forum is ridiculous how you guys can't give suggestions without giving your biased opinions name calling.

i gave you my opinion you can use reverse risers for comfort and keep manuverability. if dead set on raising the bars if you go over 4inches you will need to extend your cables the cable extension kits are on e-bay at various lenghts just measure what you need and get em.

I already have apes, and find them good for me. They are not for everyone. They are not unsafe as you implied. However the other poster calling them ludicrous is however very biased and unhelpful to the originator of this thread

That would be me Biggrin - however, I called the combination of really high apes and a bat wing ludicrous...you would have had to have seen it...it did indeed look ridiculous.

I'm not a big fan of apes and, like most anything taken to extremes, IMHO really tall apes just look like something I'd never want to ride. I don't criticize others for doing so, though, until they hit those extremes...like one fella I saw with apes so high he literally could barely reach them (I first saw him at traffic light behind a fairly tall truck and I initially thought the bike was on a trailer until the light changed and I saw hands appear on the bars) or the guy I saw today with really high apes and a bat wing. If one wants the high apes, fine, but then why a bat wing?

Personally I go through life trying not to be judgmental, but to each their own.

Ok boys to your room without dinner.

The great thing about this forum is that even though we all have our own style, likes and dislikes. There's a great knowledge base to draw from.

if their not unsafe why do states limit their height? everyone is entitled to there own opinion. but your opinion isn't based on the facts. like high bars broke a lot of legs.there are stats.on this to prove it. anyway even if it's baseless your entitled to it. enjoy and keep her on two wheels.

Did I really just hear, if it wasn't unsafe why doesn't the government let you do it? Just take a second to reflect on that on your own. Secondly apes are only as unsafe as you make them. True you lose handling, but if you don't drive like a bat out of hell it doesn't matter. And arguing how you can't go through the twisties on them, when referring to a bike with floorboards is as ludicrous as putting apes on a bat wing. People have been putting apes on for 50 years...if you can't "possibly" imagine why anyone would want to, there's plenty of bikers to ask.

And whoever it was, was right to mention to make sure you know your state laws concerning apes. Here in mass it just can't be over your shoulders. Even if you decide to say fuck it, I'll risk it with the cops, if you live somewhere that requires yearly inspections for bikes, you might find it more difficult to get a sticker.

RE: thoughts on ape hangers??
Jon629, not sure if you got the info you are looking for yet but i just put a set of apes on my 1100 custom midnight last week. Best thing ive put on the bike yet. im 6,2 and the bars are now just below my shoulder level. im not sure what everyone is arguing about loosing control ya they feel a little funky for the first little while but once you get the feel of themthere great.
As for fitment goes i originaly ordered 12" krome werks bagger apes for a harley as i have a batwing on my bike and the bends are better fit for a fairing. But they were too much for stock cables, clutch side was good but the throttle cables was too tight bike would rev when i turned the bars lol. so i had a buddy cut them down 1 3/4" ( so there now pretty much 10" apes) and narraowed the bars by 3 1\2 ( so there now around 15" wide i belive) and now the stock cables work fine except the brake line. its on but its piano string tight so i ordered a replacement
