1100 engine replacement
Engine Replacement-

I have two questions. 1. I have a 2000 vstar 1100 with a blown engine. Before anyone asks if I can just repair it. I am replacing it. How late a model year will fit in the frame and match up? 2. Can I replace the 1100 engine with any bigger size engine that will fit frame and match up? I wonder if anyone has put in a larger engine with ease and success.

Some good questions there dyeaton1. I'm not up on the 1100 - I ride a 1300.
If I were you I'd find someone who lives close to you and rides a 1300 and do some measuring.

I assume that you have the blown motor out of the 1100 frame?

I would take photos of the engine mount points both on the frame and on the motor, then without stripping your new found mate's 1300, measure and match the photos to it.

Alternatively, grab a w/shop manual for both motors and match them that way.

A worthy project, something I'd be up for just for the hell of it and to see the end result!

Good luck, keep us posted.

RE: 1100 engine replacement
Thanks for joining. I am not positive and will have to do some research. Probably your best bet...other than some other members chiming in who have done this, is the service manuals located in the resource section here:

RE: 1100 engine replacement
I believe the 1100 v star came out in 98 or 99. And i dont think any engine changes have been made since.

Also like earlier. The virago's 1100 engine is about the same but you'd need to double check... but thats been around since like 88.

As in a totally differnt engine. I doubt there are any "direct" drop in motors available besides the factory ones. If it wasnt for the factory shaft drive id think it would be a much easier project to swap engines.
