RE: Seal on engine over exhaust
mate it is a piece of cake, it is just an O ring, Yamaha should have them on the shelf. just out of interest how many miles has the bike done? mine has done 60,000 and I have had to replace 2 of those O rings in the last 10,000, so you may as well by 2,lol. Cant see the leak in the photo, and must say you engine looks really clean.

Re: Seal on engine over exhaust
Thanks but engine is dirty by my standards. I have about 10000 miles on the wheel now. I need to post a complete shot of the scoot. Did you have to remove any other parts to change seal? Thanks again and ride safe

RE: Seal on engine over exhaust
no just undo the 2 allen keys the the O ring is held in a channel on the inside of the cover, swap it out with the new one, you can used a little all purpose grease to hold it in place if necessary ( the O ring is round but the channel it sits in is oval). have a Rag handy to catch any oil that may escape, it wont be much but enough to make a mess. you may find the tappet makes a little noise when you first start it just till new oil makes it to the top of the engine again.
good luck and let us know how you go, out of interest tell me how much the seal cost you, here in Australia one genuine O ring cost me $10. I would suggest that be fore you install the new O ring take it to a bearing shop and see if they have the same O ring, buy 3 more for the other covers, they should be a lot cheaper than original parts.
love to see the pics if you can upload them.

10,000 miles isn't much I supose it is the age of the O ring that has caused it to leak? not the miles, as mine is an 06

I was advised by dealer service manager when discussing seal that using amsoil was probably cause of my seal leak. This claim is based on amsoil seeping as he called it. I am sure many will disagree but he also says 10000 miles is not normal either for seal failure.
