Harley saddle bags on vstar
well i just picked up a pair of harley saddle bags for 75 bucks. they had the old twist lock style latch and the guy that was selling them had started to switch em over for the new style latches.
Any ways has any one here mounted these style bags on their 1100 classic and is there a kit to mount these or am i better off making my own ?

Yes,
I've done this multiple times
The Easiest, cleanest & best looking way of doing it is using the Easy Brackets or ghost brackets.
On top of making the mounting if the bags a 30 mns easy gig ....you can take the of and mount them back in 30 secs or less.

If you check out the thread about all the Mods I'm doing to my Vstar you will see there some info about the bags and brackets

Yes these are the hard bags.

do you have a link for them, or are they just the stock harley brackets ?

how much modification has to be done to the bike and is it still comfortable for a passenger to ride ?

Will they clear the cobra slip on mufflers that i have on as of now ?

@mkorish
Ok,
There is no modification whatsoever to the bike
The brackets mount to the two bolts in your fender strut and the back bolts to the bracket.
It doesn't affect passenger seating remember this things allow you to decide how high or low, how much forward or to the back you want your bags. That been said had bags are big take that in consideration.
They are not HD this is a bike specific item you need to buy the one that is for your vstar.

Pipes should not be a problem

RE: Harley saddle bags on vstar
@Maustarman so get the mounts for your bike, then adapt the HD bags to the mount, right?

@keith
Correct my friend.
The kit comes with 4 adapters for your fender struts bolts and the bracket slides in to those to mount or dismount.
Than the back plate of the bracket comes with 4 holes and you aline the bags where you want them and mark where the holes will go, than you drill 4 holes where you marked the bags install the bolts and your are done.
Hardly and hour worth of work

RE: Harley saddle bags on vstar
well i decided not to use the bags, so i figured that i would at least sand them down and prime in the hopes that they would sell easier. i got them sanded down and came across spot well that was a hole in the bag and looks like they tried to use a bondo to patch it. Would it be better to fix it with fiberglass sheets ?

RE: Harley saddle bags on vstar
well my highly not expert opinion would be that you are on the right track by doing fiberglass. would be seem to be better at least.
