Thinking bout bars
I've been thinking bout some handlebars for the 1100. Thinking low and wide - currently running stock bars.
Has anyone gone to a Baron Starbar? Or similar ? Pics please

RE: Thinking bout bars
Ummm, you asked about specific bars...as garrulous as most folks on this forum are I'd bet the fact that no one replied is a pretty good bet that nobody has any experience with them...

For what it's worth I am partial to low wide bars (vs. apehangers or pulled back bars) but the stock bars on my 650 custom are wide and flat enough for me.

Or...I could just make some wise @$$ comment about thinking about bars... :)

RE: Thinking bout bars
Well, I put some really radical bars on only to find that they just ain't wide enough. Gotta go back to stock till I find a pair that I like and will look good. The bars I bought are 23" wide and the stock are 33" wide. No control in low speed maneuvers. That's nothing but dangerous for me. So I guess the wider ones are better for the v star 650 because of how fat the front tire is. So I guess low and wide is the way to go. Idk...just my 2 cents.

RE: Thinking bout bars
Personally I've just never understood the popularity of very narrow bars. I know guys think they're stylish but I guess I've got too much an engineer's brain and something that reduces your leverage just isn't stylish to me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess, but for this beholder the perception of beauty is firmly rooted in functionality. If it ain't functional, it ain't beautiful. :)

And very narrow bars certainly aren't comfortable...at least not for my build, anyway. I actually like bars wide and not pulled back too much because I have a bad back and on a cruiser with the footboards so far forward I need something I can get some leverage on to pull my butt up out of the saddle for potholes and such.

I remember back in the day when it was popular to put itty-bitty steering wheels on hot rods...back when they didn't even have power steering. It was kind of fun to watch the lengths guys would go to to avoid parallel parking... LOL

RE: Thinking bout bars
i have have different risers on my stock bars so wouldn have to mess with the cables, gave it just a little rise with more pullback so i was no longer hunched over to ride as found out on longer rides would really get to my shoulders being hunched like that, hello as get older its all about comfort not the looks so much any longer.

Here comes that old question: to slug or not to slug? I really like them. If I slug em maybe another 5" each side they could be tryed again.

I resently put on a set on risers. I have a 2001 Vstar 1100 Classic. Worked great with easy installation.

They look great What size risers? Did you have to change cables/wiring?

No changes to cables needed. Brake hose was a little tighter than I like so I turned the banjo bolt on master cylinder to point down and cheated the master cylinder in on the bar about 1/4 inch .

I'm surprised no one has the Starbar... For some reason I thought they'd be crazy popular (a victim of marketing hype?). The cruiser customising.com site has good customer reviews with a few 1100 owners on there praising them. But mixed opinions on the requirements of longer cables & lines.
